3D Underground Imaging System

The 3D ground scanning system, the most powerful system for detection in the Phoenix device, has been enhanced with a new technology incorporated into the scanner probe called the Multi Ground Scanner or MGS for short.

With its unique design and large surface with multiple sensors, MGS enables coverage and scanning of a wider area in less time but with more accurate results.

You can examine the scan data obtained from the 3D ground scanning system, MGS, as 2D visualization on the device screen or as 3D graphic presentation on the Android Tablet provided with the Multi Visual Analyzer application.

After selecting the system from the main menu, the device program allows the user to choose how the scan results will be displayed. There are two options:

1 - Device

If this option is selected, it will allow the user to complete the 3D ground scanning process using the device LCD screen, as the results will be displayed directly on the screen, before this the user needs to set the ground scanning settings which include the following options:

  • Mode
This option defines the method of performing ground scanning, meaning how measurements will be recorded at each scanning point.

There are two modes here:

Manual: In manual mode, recording of the scanning measurement performed manually by the user using the red button on the main unit of the device.

Automatic: In this mode the device is responsible for automatically capturing the measurement points

  • Ground
Refers to the shape of the user's movement path when performing ground scanning, there are two types:
Single Direction: In this case, the scan points are recorded in one direction on each scan line. In other words, the direction of the measurement record is in a certain direction on each scan line. For example, starting from south to north, for each line, this means that the starting points of the scan lines are on the same side.
Zig Zag: Here, the direction of the measurements recorded on two consecutive scan lines is in opposite directions, i.e. the starting points of two consecutive scan lines are on opposite sides.
  • Dimension
The dimensions of the virtual raster grid, which consists of cells, are related to the number of raster lines and dots in each raster grid.

It contains the following two values:

Width: the width or number of columns in the grid, the same as the number of scan lines.

Height: The height or number of lines in the grid, equal to the number of scan points.

  • Starting Point
It is the starting point for ground scanning within the predefined area and one of the following two options can be selected:
Left: in this case, the scanning process starts from the lower left corner of the scanning area.
Right: ground scanning will start from the bottom right corner of the area.
After making the previously described ground scan settings, the Scan tab summarizes the selected settings with a button to begin scanning and the user can press the OK button to actually start the scanning process and save the results.
During the scanning process, the measurement at each scan point will be visually displayed on the screen as a 2D grid consisting of rows and columns of cells, and each scan point will be presented as 4 sub-cells of specific colors depending on the type of target the MGS hovers over.
The table below shows the target type for each color:

Green Light Blue Blue Yellow Red Normal Ground Little Gap Space Metal Objects Gold
There are several values presented on the left side of the screen next to the grid:
- Current X: displays the current scan row number or current column number in the grid.
- Current Y: displays the current scan point or current line number in the grid.
- Value: a numerical value related to the measurement at the current scan point.
2-Tablet
If the user has selected this option on the device screen, they must first establish a wireless connection between the device and the tablet, then proceed with 3D ground scanning on the bundled Android tablet.
In this case, the user selects the same ground scan settings as described previously, but with the ground scan data visualized as 3D graphics as in the Multi Visual Analyzer application and within the application.
The Multi Visual Analyzer application can be installed on any Android tablet or smartphone, has a simple graphical interface available in 12 languages, is used to present the settings of the ground scan and scan data transferred in real time from the MGS as different 3D graphics.
Multi Visual Analyzer application provides a set of tools to view data from different viewports and tools to visually know the location and depth of specific target and can filter results based on specific target types.
Live Stream Search
The live feed search system is a powerful ground scanning mode with live real-time scanning of the ground and direct visualization of the measurement on the screen or optionally on the tablet via the Multi Visual Analyzer.
The scanning process in this system is performed by a Vertical High Signal Transceiver (VST) probe, a new probe with unique technology to perform deep live scanning to detect different types of targets including ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals and cavities such as tunnels or cavities.
The VST is mounted on the front of the Phoenix main unit and must be vertical, always perpendicular to the ground during the scanning process.
At the end of the probe is a four-sided cone with two sides containing a series of illuminated LEDs whose colors change during the scanning process according to the target type.
For example: When a user moves the VST probe over a gold object, when a gold coin is deposited, the LEDs will light up red, when the VST passes through a gap, they will light up blue.
After selecting the Live Streaming system from the main menu, the screen first displays a screen to calibrate the VST probe, then moves directly to the live stream screen, which displays a continuous stream of colours that change as the VST scans according to the type of target, similar to what was described for the LEDs, with a numerical value of the target displayed to the right of the screen, where the user can change the speed of the stream.
Example: When a precious metal signal is captured the color is Red and for normal ground it is green.
The user can also view the live stream visualization on the tablet via Multi Visual Analyzer, in which case he/she should connect the device and tablet via Bluetooth and select Live Stream from within the app.
The Multi Visual Analyzer application will display a varying color stream of raster data received from the VST, here also displaying colors related to the target type.
Pinpointer System
The Pin Pointer system is a system often used after excavation to accurately locate a potential target.
The scanning process is also carried out here via a VST probe and in a similar way to the live broadcast system, where the probe must also be perpendicular to the ground.
Used to determine the presence of a metal target or cavity by precisely determining the location of the buried metal or cavity via audio feedback or visualization as a 2D bar graph on the screen.
On the results screen, there are many settings that the user can adjust:
  • Sensibility
The sensitivity value is related to adjusting the sensitivity of the captured signal via the VST probe, according to this value the visual representation of the signals and the tone of the audio output change.
  • Calibration
The user can use this option to calibrate the sensor sensitivity according to the ground type and ground conditions at any time.
  • Reset
This option resets the calibration process to its default value.
The visual representation of the received signals on the device screen is a 2D bar graph.
In the case of metallic target signals, such as a bronze statue, the bar chart consists of upward-pointing bars of varying length with colors graduated from green to red in the middle at maximum values and then graduated down to green.
The signals received for gaps - like tunnels - will be made of bars of different lengths pointing downwards, varying from green to dark blue at maximum values in the middle and then grading towards green at lower values.
Modern Software Program
The user interface of the Phoenix software program is visually designed according to the latest developments in user interface design and user experience (UX) guidelines.

The software program provides the user with a rich visual experience and an easy way to adjust ground scan settings and see the results visually on screen with a range of tools.
Search System Screen
Allows the user to select the search system by selecting the search system icon from the list via buttons on the control panel.
The user can choose from 3 available search systems and press the OK button to start using the selected system.
Language Options
To provide a Phoenix 3D Ground Scanner for all potential customers around the world, the software program of the device is available in many international languages, including the most spoken and used languages in the world.
The user interface language can be easily changed from the device's settings, and the user can choose from 12 international languages to cover most countries in the world.
